Jing: Creating a Facebook Fan Page

Think your school needs a second coffee shop? (*cough cough UMD*)
Want to meet other people who share your love of Go-Gurt?

You'll probably want a Facebook fan page.
The following video I created for class will tell you how to get started.

  2. I am so glad you did this Jing video! I learned a lot from this and am itching to start trying this (but I'm not letting myself play with that until I am caught up on our class! :( !!).
Question, though: If I create a fan page like this, can I add people to it who are not my friends, and who I don't want them to be my friends or else it would be inappropriate for them to be friends? Specifically, what if I created a Facebook fan page, say for our class, to use for cool techie stuff. I could invite our class to be fans, and they could see it and it could be a common place for us to share stuff. BUT I wouldn't want this to mean that I could see students' personal Facebook pages or they see mine (as I think that it a professional boundary that I don't cross).

Would this work? Have you seen it done by other profs? I'm really interested in hearing what you and any others reading your blog think about using fan pages -- and Facebook in general -- for teaching? (btw: this is a very genuine question!! I really want to know!! :)
